Mayland Community College offers curriculum welding training for entry-level work in welding, metalworking, construction, manufacturing and fabrication. Current awards include a 43-credit evening Welding Technology diploma, 18-credit basic and intermediate certificates, and a 67-credit General Occupational Technology AAS in Welding and Machining Processes. Official curricula document hands-on training in oxyfuel and plasma cutting, stick, MIG, flux-core and TIG welding, plate and pipe welding, metallurgy, symbols and specifications, fabrication and certification practices. Welding classes are offered in Mitchell, Avery and Yancey counties, with the welding-and-machining AAS beginning at the Yancey Learning Center.
