County College of Morris offers workforce welding training in its Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering Center. Introduction to Welding teaches foundational Stick and MIG welding, tools, measurement, theory, and codes. The 200-hour AWS Level 1 course develops MIG, TIG, Stick, and Flux-Core skills while preparing students for the AWS Level 1 Entry-Welder certification exam. Experienced welders can also complete guided practice and an AWS Certified Welder performance test in a selected process and code.

This 200-hour workforce course provides extensive shop practice in MIG, TIG, Stick, and Flux-Core welding. Students learn the differences and applications of the four processes and build the practice hours needed to prepare for the AWS Level 1 Entry-Welder certification examination. Admission requires Introduction to Welding or one year of welding work experience, and current enrollment is by invitation for qualified students.

This introductory workforce course builds a foundation in welding technology and theory with hands-on Stick and MIG practice. Students also cover safe use of hand and power tools, measurement, welding careers, and an introduction to welding codes and standards. It is the prerequisite pathway into CCM's AWS Level 1 course, and students supply their own safety gear and clothing.

Experienced welders select an AWS qualification in Stick, MIG, Flux-Core, or TIG under D1.1 structural steel, D1.6 stainless steel, or D1.2 aluminum requirements, or submit an applicable welding procedure specification. Three guided practice sessions cover best practices for the selected qualification, followed by a supervised test-coupon session. Coupons receive third-party inspection by AWS-certified professionals, and successful candidates become AWS Certified Welders in the selected process.
