Ferris State University offers a two-year Welding Technology Associate of Applied Science and a Welding Engineering Technology Bachelor of Science at its Big Rapids campus. The A.A.S. combines welding-process laboratories with welding graphics, metallurgy and material science, fabrication, mechanical and nondestructive testing, inspection, automation, electronics, and manufacturing coursework. The B.S. builds on an approved welding-focused associate degree with weldment design, advanced welding processes, resistance welding, automation and robotics, welding metallurgy, quality systems, an internship, and a senior engineering-management project. Both programs use specialized welding and fabrication laboratories in the Swan Technical Arts Building.
