The Structural Plate and Pipe Welding program combines classroom and lab work in Stick, MIG, flux-cored and TIG welding. Students practice vertical-up and vertical-down welding, open-butt, groove and fillet welds, plate positions 2G, 3G and 4G, and pipe positions 2G, 5G and 6G on 2- to 8-inch pipe. Lab training also covers torch cutting, fabrication, tolerances, measurement, and machine operation and maintenance. Classroom instruction covers safety, equipment and electrical fundamentals, blueprint reading, shop drawings, math and weld symbols. Students may complete qualification tests to AWS and ASME codes and receive a school Certification of Completion and records for qualifications earned.
