The 500-class-hour Welding AWS Level 1 program trains students in MIG/GMAW, TIG/GTAW, flux-cored/FCAW and Stick/SMAW welding. Students practice fillet and groove welds in multiple positions on carbon steel; MIG instruction includes short-circuit and spray-transfer work, while TIG includes limited-position work on carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminum. The curriculum also includes fillet welds and open-butt plate welds. GMCA states that program completers are certified as AWS Level 1 welders and that its welding training and certifications are accredited through the American Welding Society.
