Green River College is a public community college whose Welding Technology program is based in the Trades Technology buildings on the Auburn main campus. Students can pursue a 94-credit, two-year Associate in Applied Science or one of three 26-credit, six-month certificates: Basic Arc and Flame, Intermediate Arc and Flame, and Advanced Arc Welding. This 26-credit, two-quarter Certificate of Proficiency is the first of Green River's three Trade Welder certificates. Its Basic Arc Weld and Flame Cutting coursework develops manual arc-welding skill on low-carbon steel in multiple positions, electrode knowledge, and manual and machine oxy-acetylene cutting. The Trade Welder pathway is designed to help students reach the proficiency needed for American Welding Society or Washington Association of Building Officials certification tests. A welding-faculty consultation is required before program entry.

The 94-credit Welding Technology Associate in Applied Science is a six-quarter, two-year program for employment as a trade welder, structural steel detailer, engineering aide or sales engineer and for advancement into inspection, planning or supervision. Students progress through basic, intermediate and advanced welding work, blueprint reading and related technical study. The welding sequence develops manual arc, MIG, TIG and flux-cored skills along with performance-test preparation. A consultation with welding faculty is required before admission.
