About Nunez Community College (school-wide)

Nunez Community College offers a stackable academic welding pathway consisting of a 9-credit Shielded Metal Arc Welding Career and Technical Certificate, a 20-credit Intermediate Welding Certificate of Technical Studies and a 53-credit Combo Welder Technical Diploma. Students progress through Stick, MIG, Flux-Core, TIG, open-root and pipe welding with substantial hands-on laboratory work. The college provides opportunities to test with an American Welding Society inspector at the end of each term and also offers a separate workforce AWS Welding course. Beginning Fall 2026, Nunez additionally offers beginner welding classes to dual-enrollment students at a temporary Plaquemines Parish site in Belle Chasse.

This 53-credit Technical Diploma is the comprehensive credential in Nunez's stackable welding pathway. Students receive hands-on training in SMAW, GMAW, FCAW and GTAW as well as open-root and pipe welding. The curriculum also covers fitting, field skills, industrial safety and blueprint interpretation. The current official catalog states that an American Welding Society inspector tests and certifies student welders at the end of each term.
