The 36-credit Welding Technician diploma prepares students for entry-level welding and fabrication work through theory and practical shop instruction. Courses cover Stick, MIG, TIG and Flux-Core welding; pipe and nonferrous welding; fabrication; metallurgy; and welding inspection and testing. Thermal-cutting instruction includes oxyfuel cutting, plasma cutting, and air-carbon-arc cutting and gouging, along with oxyacetylene welding and brazing. Students practice multiple welding positions and joint types on mild steel, learn equipment setup and filler-metal applications, and work toward AWS quality requirements. The college states that students may have opportunities to earn AWS qualifications in various welding techniques.
