Suffolk County Community College — Michael J. Grant Campus – Advanced Manufacturing Training Center

This 180-hour noncredit course combines classroom and lab instruction with an additional online component. Training emphasizes shielded metal arc welding in fillet and groove positions and introduces MIG, TIG, oxyfuel welding setup and plasma cutting. Weld training follows AWS D1.1 structural-steel standards. Students who complete the class requirements can test separately for AWS D1.1 3G and 4G certification on one-inch plate; tuition includes books, required welding materials, gloves, coat and safety glasses, while the helmet and certification fee are excluded.

This 16-hour workforce course introduces gas metal arc, gas tungsten arc and shielded metal arc welding. Students must provide an auto-darkening helmet, welding jacket and welding gloves. Current official sections are scheduled in Brentwood over four evening meetings.

This workforce offering provides American Welding Society certification testing in the 3G vertical and 4G overhead positions. Participants must have completed Suffolk's MEC211 Welding course, equivalent training, or have prior knowledge of the standards, and must bring all required protective equipment.
