This 36-credit, two-semester certificate combines welding theory with extensive laboratory training. Students work with Stick, MIG, Flux-Core, TIG and submerged-arc welding, along with oxyfuel, carbon-arc and plasma cutting. The curriculum also covers metallurgy, joint design, practical fabrication-related application and nondestructive examination. It specifically prepares students for AWS D1.5 and D1.1 Structural Steel Unlimited certifications in FCAW and SMAW in all positions and can lead into the Pipe Welding certificate.

This intensive 19-credit summer certificate builds on advanced welding training. Students practice all-position pipe welding on multiple pipe sizes, learn methods for cutting, beveling and preparing pipe, and receive extensive laboratory instruction in TIG and Stick pipe welding. The program gives students the opportunity to earn three ASME 6G pipe-welding certifications on 2-inch through 6-inch pipe. Completion of Advanced Welding Technology or Industrial Mechanics plus passed AWS certifications, or instructor permission, is required for admission.
