Indian River State College offers two welding pathways. Its selective-admission, 1,050-hour Welding Technology vocational certificate is available in Fort Pierce and Port St. Lucie, with day and evening formats and about 75 percent of training in the lab. Students learn Stick, MIG, TIG and Flux-Core welding, metal preparation, blueprint reading and fabrication, and can test for AWS certifications in structural and pipe work. A separate 2,671-hour Welding Apprenticeship combines classroom study with paid training through a local employer that sponsors the apprentice.

This selective-admission, 1,050-hour vocational certificate develops entry-level welding skills through classroom study and extensive shop practice; the college reports that about 75 percent of training is in the lab. Students progress through safety, tools and equipment, Stick, MIG, TIG and Flux-Core welding, metal preparation, blueprint reading and fabrication. Day students typically complete the program in 10 months and evening students in 12 months. The program includes certification preparation, and AWS exams for multiple alloys and structural and pipe work are offered at the end.
