Salt Lake Community College offers two current welding pathways at the Westpointe Center. The 24-credit Welding Technology Technical Certificate is a competency-based program with hands-on instruction in oxyacetylene, Stick, MIG, Flux-Core, and TIG welding, as well as oxyfuel, plasma, and carbon-arc cutting and arc-air gouging. A 24-credit, competency-based technical certificate delivered at the Westpointe Center. Students develop hands-on skills in oxyacetylene, Stick, MIG, Flux-Core, and TIG welding on plate and pipe, together with oxyfuel, plasma, and carbon-arc cutting and arc-air gouging. The program also covers metal preparation, layout and fabrication, weld quality, and performance-qualification and certification techniques. SLCC describes six program starts per year, with 16-week and 8-week start points, and an expected completion time of about ten months.
